Learning Legacy from the Last Lecture

My sister-in-law lent me the Last Lecture book by Randy Pausch.  At first I thought it was a fictional novel but when I started to read it, I realized it's more like a diary or authobiography.  It is a book about the author's childhood dreams, personal experiences, struggles from his illness, and learnings  in life.  I feel that he wrote that book to leave a legacy in this world--- to prove that dreams really do come true.

As I read the first pages of the book, I couldn't help but to weep silently because I could feel the mood of the story (the author had a pancreatic cancer and only had few months to live.  So I just imagine how sad he was, as well as the people close to him, especially his wife).  But the author made his story a positive one--- that even though  his time was up, he still decided to make the last days of his life happy.

He had dreams in life which he surprisingly attained (Hey, he even dreamed of going to space--- and he had experienced it!).  I also have dreams in life.  I may not be child anymore but I still continue to dream.

How about you?  Do you have your own dreams in life?

If you don't have The Last Lecture book yet, I suggest you watch its video below during your freetime and be enlightened and inspired.  You can also visit its website at http://www.thelastlecture.com/

Have a nice day!

Mommy Moments: Pamana for my kid

mommy moments

I couldn't give away my precious pocketbooks and novels because I always think that I would like my children to read them when they grow up.  Hey, those books might not be available when they grow up, would they?  Hehe.  Actually most pocketbooks that I have are Sweet Valley books (as in, they are still intact and with plastic cover pa! Parang high school notebook! Haha!).  They still smell bookish because I really take good care of them (as in pag may humihiram sa kanila, I make sure that they would return them to me).  I admit I was a huge major major fan of Sweet Valley (I also had SV shirt, socks, and cassette soundtrack of SVH TV series).   Now, since I'm big enough not to read those cheesy teen stories anymore, they are kept nicely in a big box, waiting for my daughter Rian to take hold of them someday.  My Harry Potter books are also waiting for her to read them, though those books are still hanging around my parents house because my brothers still enjoy to read them up to now.  I hope Rian would be a wide reader of different books (but I hope she wouldn't be a bookworm...but just a book lover like me!).  And I hope she would enjoy one simple pamana I plan to give her.  :)

This was my very first SV Twins book, I had it when I was in grade school.  I hope my daughter would enjoy reading this as well. :)

I have Sweet Valley Unicorn Club bools #1 to 15 (but I wasn't anymore completed the whole books of it..I tried but I lacked funds anymore that time...and I turned college that time too, so I guess the kind of book was not right for me anymore. Hehe)

Most of my SVU books were about Lila Fowler, because I like her!  She may be a spoiled brat and bitchy sometime, but I got to know her better through continuous reading of Sweet Valley books.  She's also nice person, just misunderstood sometimes. She taught me that not all things can be bought by money...not all, but most. Haha! :D

***My actual SV books are not with me right now...they are in my parents' house.  So I just got the pictures from the internet :D

Happy Mommy Moments meme blogging! :)

Mommy Moments: My baby's first books

mommy moments

I missed this meme last Friday, but anyway, I would still post something about it.  The topic's all about books.  Personally, I adored books since I was in grade school (and even younger!).  That's why I would also like my 1 year old toddler to be also fond of books.  Here's her first ever book:

I bought this when she was 5 months old.  It was not actually a story book with words, but a book with different textures inside.  I bought this so that my baby would be familiarized with different textures.  Back then she was fascinated with its textures and sounds.  Now that she had grown older, she fascinates herself with it by opening the little peek-a-boo's in each pages.  She realizes there are pictures inside the textured peek-a-boo doors, leaves, and clouds.

I observed that she was more excited now to flip pages of my mommy magazines and books.  She didn't anymore tear paper pages, but instead, she looks at pictures and words (and even try to just turn pages one by one).  That's why I introduced to her a hardbound bible book.  However, it was not a new book (it's my husband's bible book when he was little).  I make the book reading more exciting for her because I read the stories in it while she flips the pages.  Sometimes, she would babble, making comments out of the story.  We usually make the story telling before she goes to sleep.

I guess, she would love books like I do.  Curiously flipping must be the first sign of loving books! Hehe.  I don't want her to become a nerdy bookworm but I want her to appreciate books because it would increase her vocabulary and widen her creativity and imagination.
